The Growth and Place Directorate
The Directorate
Richmond and Wandsworth Councils have created a new Growth and Place Directorate because the scale of opportunity across our two boroughs demands a bold, integrated approach
Together, we serve more than 500,000 residents and steward some of London’s most distinctive and ambitious places – from historic town centres and riverside communities to creative quarters and emerging growth hubs.
This new directorate reflects our commitment to a place-based approach to growth, ensuring we employ system-thinking to connect planning, regeneration, housing, transport, and economic development. By drawing on the strength of partnerships across both boroughs, we can deliver better outcomes for residents and businesses, while shaping sustainable, inclusive communities for the future.
What makes this moment so exciting is that we are building something from the ground up. This is a rare opportunity to define how two ambitious councils work together to shape places at a genuinely city-scale. The decisions we make now will set the tone for growth, investment, and regeneration for years to come – and that’s why the two new Director roles are so pivotal.
